PENCIL IN THE SKETCHBOOK | 2

4.21.2014

It has been back to the basics lately while taking a few classes at Seattle's New York Fashion Academy. I took some drawing classes in college, while working towards my graphic design degree, but my watercolor and fashion illustration skills are all self-taught. I decided the only way to get better was to start with the basics in a classroom setting, and so far it has been a great experience. I am not going to lie, I love having homework again. Knowing that I must set aside time each week to learn and work creatively is great. Especially when some weeks it feels like I can't even find time to shower after a run (okay I promise I usually find time for that).

Anyway, for the past 4 weeks we have been working in pencil only, and for this assignment we designed our own suit and evening dress. I will never claim to be a fashion designer, but this was a great exercise to look at how clothes are constructed. I found myself easily connecting fashion design to graphic design, making sure the garments were seen as a whole and not just a bunch of random techniques, trends and design ideas all thrown into one garment.

Stay tuned for more from my time at New York Fashion Academy.

  1. I don't think you can get college homework help free, but if you are willing to pay, you always can get a professional help.
